This poem has been sitting in my notes app for more than 2 and a half years, and it had nowhere to go, so it was finally here.

If my best friend sees this post, she’ll surely slap me through the phone. (I am sorry, dear.)

The sun is hiding behind the cloudburst,
There you are, holding a magenta-coloured umbrella,
In the dazzling blue shirt and the night blue trousers,
With a complexion that reflects the hues of softly spun silk,
The sun-kissed glow that whispers warmth and grace
The secrets you harboured in those almond-shaped eyes,
As you smile, the thin line of moustache that follows your lips,
The vertical thin red line worn in the middle of the forehead,
With a quiet elegance, your straight brows form an unassuming bridge, leading the way to the tranquil depths of your rumination,
It’s always in the eyes-
The sparkles on your face,
as if you’re cradling mysteries,
The enthralling smile on your face,
as if you have many secrets to tell,
The sea reflects the moon’s beauty,
creating waves that blush much as my cheeks do,
all in awe of your presence,
as if I am in a fairy tale.
The way you see me,
Ephemeral tremors in my heart,
The amused look on your face,
as if you glimpsed the loveliest thing.
But we couldn’t go any further,
all nights, daydreams.
Somewhere only we know,
We miss each other like
The stars miss the sun in the gloaming sky.
Put your hands in mine,
Let’s go somewhere,
where stars kiss the ocean,
The Sleeps in the Rain rhythm,
Maybe we will be a memory in the stars’ dust,
or memories to pen with the unwritten chapter of our lives.
I wrote this thinking about you and how, if you were a novel,
You’d be an adventure of sadness and happiness, and love lost in between. You would remind me of the sky, mountains, constellations, and caffeine. You would be full of pages that make me laugh and, at other times, fall apart,
You would always be the novel I took down from the shelf to read.

I asked him about this poem when I confessed later, and he was like, “What poem? I didn’t remember”

Then I realised my email straight went to spam, lol. And just like I never saw him again, and he never read through my eyes about him.
